One of the most popular hikes in the area is the journey through the Escalante River Gorge. This narrow canyon displays a natural bridge, an arch, and side canyons where tributaries feed into the river. Hikers must make numerous crossings in ankle to knee-deep water along the 15-mile route, which begins near the Escalante, Utah cemetery and ends at the scenic UT 12 bridge trailhead.
